Custom Social Icons
Difficulty: Intermediate (Need to be able to upload images to a theme folder by FTP)
The Ply Social widget lets you add links to all of your social profiles easily, just by dragging it into a widget area.
By default, we’ve used a set of gorgeous icons by Nick La (Who kindly lets us package his icons with our themes). If you’d like to change to a different icon set though, we’ve made it easy!
Using Custom Icons
(Important – Your icons must be in .png format. This is standard for most icon sets online though)
1 – Upload your icons – In your “chameleon” folder (In wp-content > themes), go into the “custom” folder, and then the “icons” folder within that. This is where you should upload your icons to.
(NB – The actual images need to go into this folder. You should not upload your icons inside another folder).
2 – Rename the icons – To tell Chameleon which image to use for which site, you just need to follow a very simple naming system:
Take the website’s name, then convert it all to lowercase, and replace any spaces with dashes (i.e. – ). For example:
Delicious -> delicious.png
MSN -> msn.png
Yahoo Buzz -> yahoo-buzz.png
Easy, isn’t it?
3 – Update the Ply Social widget - When you’ve uploaded your images, you should now go to your widgets page (Appearance > Widgets) and drag the “Ply Social” widget to where you want it.
Then change the “Icon Type” to “Custom” and that’s you done! Your new icons will be used on the site immediately.
